Car Window Tinting
Is Window Tinting Legal in the UK?
In the UK, legal requirements specify a minimum Visible Light Transmission (VLT) for certain vehicle windows. Front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to pass through, while rear side windows and the rear windscreen have no legal minimum requirement, and any shade is permitted.
At LBB Detailing, every car window tinting installation in our Sheffield workshop is carried out in full compliance with UK regulations. If you’re unsure which grade is right for your vehicle, our team will advise you before any work begins, so you drive away looking great and fully road-legal.

Choosing Your Tint Shade
We offer three tint grades, giving you full control over privacy, light, and style:
5% — Limo Tint
The darkest shade we offer, which provides maximum privacy by making the interior virtually invisible from outside. A popular choice for SUVs, prestige cars, and rear windows on any vehicle.
20% — Factory Tint
Our most popular option, which delivers a clean, factory-fitted appearance with strong heat rejection and excellent privacy, it is dark enough to make a visual impact, but refined rather than aggressive and works well on any car type.
50% — Light Tint
Subtle and barely noticeable, but still blocks up to 99% of UV rays and significantly reduces solar heat build-up inside the cabin. The ideal choice if you want the performance benefits of window tinting without a darker look.
All grades offer up to 99% heat rejection. Our team will help you choose the right shade during your free estimate.

Why Ceramic Film?
Not all window film is the same. At LBB Detailing, we use premium ceramic window film rather than cheaper dyed or metallic alternatives. Here’s why it matters:
-
No signal interference: ceramic film contains no metal, so your mobile, GPS, and dash camera work perfectly after fitting.
-
Colour-stable: it won’t fade, bubble, or turn purple over time, the way dyed films can.
-
Superior heat rejection: ceramic technology blocks infrared heat more effectively than standard films, keeping your cabin cooler on warm summer days.
The result is a window tint that looks and performs as well in year five as it does on day one.

How Long Does Window Tinting Take?
Most car window tinting is completed within 2–3 hours; however, this depends on your vehicle type and the number of windows being tinted.
You simply drop your car off at our Sheffield workshop, and we’ll contact you when it’s ready to collect.
Once fitted, we recommend keeping your windows closed for 48–72 hours to allow the film to cure fully.
You may notice a very slight haze or small water pockets immediately after fitting, this
Caring for Your Window Tint
To keep your tint in perfect condition for years to come, follow these simple guidelines:
-
Wait at least 3–5 days before winding your windows down after fitting.
-
Clean tinted windows with a soft microfibre cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner; ammonia-based products can degrade the film over time.
-
Avoid applying stickers or suction mounts directly to the tinted surface.
-
If you notice any bubbling or peeling within the warranty period, get in touch, and we’ll resolve it at no charge.
